The Gram Life

These Boots are Made for Walking

My shoe closet is very certainly a reflection of the sporty, minimalist, utilitarian side of me. I have 2 types of shoes - my boots and my work shoes. Yes, there's a few pairs of sandals and sneakers thrown in there, but I am a creature of habit.

Through the year, at least four working days out of five, I wear the same pair of shoes to work. They're always black, comfortable loafers. I wear them till they give up the ghost; usually after a couple of years. Over the last five years, these are the 3 shoes that have played that role. See a trend?

I unlearnt how to wear pointy heels when I started working as an engineer and I never recovered that skill. Outside of my work shoes, I love boots so I have them in all the different rises - knee, mid-calf and ankle. Throw in a pair of sandals, slippers, flats and sneakers and you have a summary of my 16 shoe wardrobe.

One thing my shoes all have in common is comfort. Life's too short to wear uncomfortable shoes and I think comfort trumps beauty when it comes to shoes. That's my take. What's yours?
